My name is Alexa Shaw and I love to dance and act! I am currently 13 years old and live with my family just north of Toronto in Newmarket, ON, Canada. I am a competitive dancer and part time actress, some of my personal interests are cross country running, art, music and the Toronto Blue Jays. I am currently training at JCB Danceworks in Richmond Hill in many styles of dance including ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, acro and contemporary. I started my dance training when I was 3 years old at York Dance Academy learning ballet. Over the years I have learned many more dance styles and my favourite style of dance is jazz but like to dance many different styles and am always learning new styles to keep growing and pushing my limits. I started as a competitive dancer at the age of 8 and as a soloist at the age of 9.
At age 10 I became a member of Team Canada Dance and competed as a soloist and in small and large groups at the IDO World Dance Championships in Poland in jazz, modern, lyrical and ballet placing as high as 4th place in the 6 routines I competed in. This was a great experience on the world stage to see how other countries danced and performed and something that I will always remember and use to push my limits to become a better dancer.
I was cast as the role of Tina in the movie called Doggie Day Care which was released on DVD in 2014 directed by Matty Johnson of Stacks Entertainment. My family and I were cast in a TV commercial for Rogers Smart Home Monitoring in 2013. In 2012 I performed on stage in multiple live performances of A Christmas Carol with the Motus O Dance Theater.
In 2017 I competed in 11 routines at 4 different dance competitions in the next few months with JCB Danceworks. I am always looking for opportunities to act and dance as I can and look forward to any and all that come my way.
In 2018 I continue to train, dance, volunteer and compete with JCB Danceworks. This year I have decided to compete in 16 dances with 2 solos this year 1 in jazz and 1 in lyrical. I will be competing in 6 competitions in the Toronto area this year. I have also qualified to compete in the Candance Nation Finals in Orlando, Florida from June 30 - July 6 for my lyrical solo called "Listen" choreographed by Nicole Barber-Lofto.
